character:pascal-baudin

Pascal Baudin is a human male in his late thirties living in Paris and played by Rehchoortahn.

Pascal was 'woken' by the Cheshire Epsilon for the purpose of being educated about Cheshires - not that he knows about this, of course. From his perspective, he's just being toyed with in ways that happen to also be insightful about the nature of the grotesque alien infestation of Earth.

Background

Job

Pascal's job is that of a psychologist. He's of the school of thought that one shouldn't refer people to medication unless circumstances are dire. He juggles two actual jobs - one as a freelance therapist giving online and telephone counselling, one as a member of a private institution specialised on mental health, which straddles a line between being a theoretical research facility (i.e. archive trudging, evidence collection, spreadsheets) and a counselling business, where he has unhappily received more of the former tasks than the latter.

Project Elenchus

His interest in human psychology has left him deeply perturbed about the curiosity toxin, he habitually strikes up conversations with strangers on the way to and from work, or while indulging in free time, trying obsessively to find the limits of its effects as well as hopefully guide its victims around the imposed limitation somehow.

Family

His family never really interested him much. He parted ways with them once he was of age and only rarely talks to them any more.

Personality

Baseline

Pascal has a calm, analytical but pleasant air. In most situations, he's incredibly unoffensive, largely by merit of being extra aware of what would be offensive. As such, he's also entirely capable of turning his usual behaviour on his head to provoke a reaction.

That said, he tries to be maximally helpful. Nonetheless, 'maximally helpful' does not imply that he's going to minimise your discomfort. If he's convinced that you're in a bad state and the only way to get you out of it is to make you feel worse for a bit, he will do this without much hesitation. It might feel awkward for him and he may well regret it later (or even as it happens), but it won't stop him.

Around Cheshires

Pascal is to equal parts horrified (but not necessarily always terrified) of Cheshires and curious about them. He does have strong instincts telling him to stay away from Cheshires, but he does occasionally ignore his instincts' advice to go exploring in areas he knows to be unsafe. His focus when caught by a Cheshire is to minimise damage received, making him a fairly pliable victim whose terror is expressed primarily in silence, tension and wide eyes.
