+Earth is decaying.
+Slowly, the planet is consumed, and every day its orbit deteriorates a little more, nudging it further away from the sun.
+Meanwhile, the subjugated human population is fully unaware of their own subjugation. Stripped of their curiosity, most humans don't parse the changes around them. In some places, whole mountains can disappear without that anyone's attention is roused. Routine keeps most of the human population alive, functioning by their own measure.
+The visitors, called [[Cheshires]] by those lucid enough to perceive their phantom forms amongst the landscape, are in no rush to finish the planet off. They could finish Earth in a few weeks, but it's rare that they encounter sapient life on their travels.
